Nederland ISD Board of Education Officially Calls for November 2026 Election

The Nederland Independent School District Board of Education unanimously approved calling a Voter-Approval Tax Rate School Election for Nov. 3, 2026.

"I want to thank our Board for keeping our teachers and staff at the heart of Nederland ISD," Superintendent Dr. Steven Beagle said. "A Voter-Approval Tax Rate School Election is one of the tools allowed by the state to provide funding for school districts."

Proposition A provides $4.1 million of new funding to Nederland ISD for the current fiscal year to support the district’s Maintenance & Operations instructional budget. The funds would be used for increasing teacher and staff pay, maintaining student programs, and safety and security.

Based on the average home value of $225,000 in Nederland ISD, homeowners would see an increase of $4.99 per month on the passage of Prop A.

The estimated financial impact of the 2026 election includes the $140,000 standard Homestead Exemption and the $200,000 Over-65 Homestead Exemption approved by state voters in November 2025.

Since 2019, state law requires all propositions for any school district to have the phrase “THIS IS A TAX INCREASE” on all ballot language.

There will not be an increase in taxes for senior citizens or disabled persons as a result of this proposal. School property taxes are frozen for senior citizens and disabled persons and will remain unaffected by the passage of the election, provided they have applied for and received the Over 65 Homestead Exemption with the appropriate appraisal district and have made no major improvements or additions to their residence. Check your most recent Notice of Assessed Value Change to see if you will be impacted.

The district will begin providing the community with comprehensive voter education on all aspects of the 2026 election.

“Our job is to make sure the process is clear and transparent,” Beagle said. “We want every voter to have the facts about Proposition A and make the decision that’s right for them. The district will be sharing information through direct mailers, digital channels, and social media in the weeks ahead.”

Factual information and voting locations will be available on the district website at https://www.nederlandisd.org/PropA.
